Arrival by Plane
Trains in the UK are strange and can be very expensive if you don’t know all the tricks such as ticket splitting and booking longer distances than you actually travel.  That’s what rail privatisation gets you, but Brits that never left the country before think it’s awesome.  Sorry…

Birmingham Airport:
1:30hrs from Birmingham International Airport, approx. £21 return journey (off-peak).

Manchester Airport:
1:00-1:30hrs from Manchester Airport.  Approx. £28 return (off-peak).  If no of-peak is available, take a look at getting 2 tickes, one from Manchester Airport -> Manchester Picadilly and one from Manchester Picadilly -> Stoke on Trent.  It is the identical journey, but can sometimes save up to 70%.

Stansted Airport:
If you are coming from London Stansted – do not book a ticket directly to Stoke-On-Trent. They are terrible train journeys (4+ hours) and cost £120+.  Instead you can book a ticket from Stansted to (example) Nottingham (£36), or Stansted to London (£20) and book a separate ticket from there (approx £20-£50).  This will save you about 50% in costs and 30-50% in travel time.

London Heathrow Airport:
2:30hrs, approx. £130 if you book direct.  Or, get a £3-5 tube ticket to Russel Square (near Euston Station) and get a £50 return ticket from Euston.  50+% savings and no real difference in journey time.
